Model General Information
The name 'Mistral' was revived in the 1960s being originally used in the 1930s. The revived model - always built in Reynolds 531 throughout - seems to have been initially marketed as a model that could function as a winter trainer or tourer but which could be put to use for time trialling for those that needed a general purpose machine and could not afford a dedicated racer. However, the frame geometry was always along classic 72 degree parallel tourer lines. Towards the end of production, in the 1980s, the marketing was very much as a straight tourer (e.g. with complete bikes offered with Campagnolo Rally rear mech as standard) and other contemporary Holdsworth models sold for dedicated competition work.

One of many English large scale frame builders who over time bought out their rivals and eventually grew too big for their own good. Examples from their early years through the 60's are said to be of extraordinarily quality. However through the 70's and certainly in the 80's the frames became mass produced product. However even these later examples are reported to be fine riding frame, just do not have the workmanship of the earlier frames. Holdsworth bought out builders Claud Butler and Freddie Grubb among others.
