Union
Bicycles, tended to be low to middle quality, mass produced Dutch
bicycles. the following is translated from "new" Union webpage.
There was a good quality union frame, it was used by the Dutch racing team & made in Italy.
"Berend-Jan
van den Berg, son of a windmill operator, founded the Union Bicycle Company on
the 27th of July 1904 at Dedemsvaart, Holland. At that time van den Berg was
already active in the bicycle trade but he wanted to establish his own brand. The
name 'Union' was coined after Van den Berg saw a ship named 'Union fait force'
on the river Rhine. The Union company survived the roaring twenties and
continued the production of quality bicycles after World War II. In
1966 the Union company already produced around a million bikes throughout the
Netherlands. The Union company is a well-established brand in Holland with more
than a hundred years of experience in the bicycle industry. For decades they
are one of the biggest bicycle producers in Holland. The
Union Company decided to enter the US market because of the demand for city
transport alternatives. " |
