In 1885 the emerging composite technology made it possible to make disk wheels without a penalty in weight, and it became obvious that this technology promised extraordinary potential.
Very likely is that the development of sport equipment made of fiber reinforced composites like luges, bob sleds, performance rowing boats of all kinds, kicked of the consideration to found FES in Berlin.
The activities were transfered from Chemnitz to Berlin gradually starting in 1985/86. As the reunion took place in 1989 more or less all important activities were finally relocated to Berlin.
