History |
Founded in 1861 by a group of gunsmiths, the companies original purpose was to supply arms and ammunition during the Crimean War. From those small beginnings grew the Birmingham Small Arms Company which became the best known British motorcycle company, and even for a time build automobiles. BSA's downfall began in the 1960's due to competition from Japan and Germany. Today the name lives on, but is all but a shadow of what the company once was.
