This is an early example of the Rigi Bicicorta "short bicycle" as evidenced by the absence of the stamped-in Rigi logo on the head-tube. As with many Italian bicycles of the era, the factory paint is soft and easily damaged, which makes the condition of this frame a bit remarkable. Fully chromed versions of these were also available, as was a track version. These early versions had thin-film block letter transfers with the name "Rigi" on the headtube, but the decals on most surviving frames do not appear to have aged well and most have disappeared. The limited contact area for seat-pin insertion (the fragment of a "seat tube") was not a problem to lighter-weight riders or to those riding over smooth roads - but I have seen examples where the "seat tube" on these develops distortions/cracks on frames that have seen heavy use/heavy riders. |
