Model General Information
Compagnia was a short lived Japanese import marque known mostly for inexpensive 'wanna be' road bikes. Quality ran from plumbing pipe w/ stamped steel dropouts to modest Tange tubeset and cast drop outs. The Professional is the top model.

This frame appears to well represent the Professional in looks and equipment. The lugs show no special attention in terms of filing the casting flash or polishing preparatory to plating. The Professional is full chrome plated and painted. Dropouts are Yuko (a slightly thinner Campy 1010 knock-off), with adjuster screws in the rear. The appearance is fine Italian, the reality is mass production of the style, and remarkably careless.

Equipment for the Professional has Suntour Cyclone transmission, Sugino Mighty crankset and BB, Shimano hubs with Rigida rims. Brakes are Dia-Compe center pulls with cheap Chinese (Star) levers. Also in the line of cheap Chinese is the headset. Bars are Nitto Universiade, stem is Nitto Dynamica. One remarkable feature is about the wheels. Spokes are presumably Asahi and the heads show marks of having been hand set in the hub flange drillings. I am not so knowledgable as to say this was rare practice at the time, but on a bike with such notably poor workmanship elsewhere, it was surprising.

As found, and presumably stock, this bike goes from the almost sublime to the ridiculous.
The example has had some upgrades:
f der is Campy Chorus
crank is Campy Record
brakes are Tektro
levers are Superbe
headset is Saavedra
stem is generic
Otherwise, apparently stock.
