Barum started in 1945/6 as a trademark used by a consortium of three nationalised Czechoslovak tyre producers - Bata, Rubena and Matador (hence Ba-ru-m). Bicycle tyres were produced by Rubena, while Bata and Matador focused mainly on car tyres. The history of bicycle tyres manufacturing by Rubena goes back to 1928. Barum/Rubena also took over the production of bicycle tyres from the former Michelin subsidiary in Prague (established 1933). After the privatisation of Barum in the early 1990s, bicycle tyres production continues in Rubena. |
