History
Robert Broderick: Located in Arudy, France, the "... origins of the company itself date back to 1654 with their making of candle wax stamps, which somehow lead them to the manufacture of various small precision instruments, and ultimately found them producing and exporting cold rolled steel on a global scale. I was given to understand “back in the day” that Les Usines Laprade ... was more than happy to license their unique seat post design to various manufacturing entities such as Sakae-Ringyo (SR) of Japan and later Kalloy of Taiwan so that they might otherwise concentrate on “core” business enterprises.... Les Usines Laprade ... was absorbed by the Coste Steel Group which saw employment at the Arudy facility drop by nearly 500 persons starting from 1980 such that only 13 persons remained when the last remnants of the original company were liquidated in December of 2010."
