| Currys is now one of Britain's three biggest electric and electronics retailers. However, originally, it started out life as a bicycle manufacturer in Leicester. They stopped selling bicycles in the mid 1960s. They made and sold lightweights, sports roadsters, utility bicycles and ladies bicycles. |
| History |
| Henry Curry started building bicycles in the shed in his back garden in 1884. He opened a shop in 1888, selling bicycles. Slowly, more and more consumer eletrical goods were added to his stock, until the shop became mostly electrical goods. In 1932, H. Curry & Sons, as the company was known at that time, stopped manufacturing bicycles in 1932 but sold rebadged Hercules bicycles (rebadged as Currys) until the mid 1960s.
