| Christoph Ulbrich: "The Ravat brand goes back to the Etablissements Ravat established in 1898 in Saint-Etienne by Jules Ravat. This company was quite innovative and they held many interesting patents, such as one for a square tapered bottom brackett axle dating from 1905! Long before Vérot did his one with the Stronglight thing. In 1904 Ravat introduced the brand Wonder and after becoming incorporated (=SA in French) in 1919 they also launched the S.A.D.E.R. brand which stands for Société Anonyme des Etablissements Ravat. All those three brands were in use for different bicyle parts and Ravat and Wonder also for bicycles and frames as well. To my knowledge they produced a variety of different qualities of hubs and they were offered under all three brands. ... In the mid 1950s Ravat has been bought out by Mercier." |
