Galli catalog in early/mid 80s:
Giovanni Galli and Co. have been making competition bicycle components ever since the original Giovanni Galli retired from racing and began producing the world’s first alloy caliper brakes over a half century ago. Since the early 70’s the company has been run by the founder’s nephew, Dr. Givanni Savio. Over the last decade Dr. Savio has rebuilt the company from the ground up – on a modern foundation.
Recently GALLI has entered into special working relationships with the French companies Mailliard and Stronglight to strengthen the line in certain areas. Meanwhile the GALLI specializes, such as brakes and derailleurs, GALLI has redesigned many pieces. At GALLI’s new ultra modern manufacturing facilities in Turin, Italy, all phases of production have been modernized, with special attention to quality control.
Dr. Savio has placed his company on a new road, an effort that has been aided by close cooperation with world class cyclists using GALLI equipment. GALLI co-sponsored one of Italy’s professional squads (GALLI / CONTI ), and some of the worlds top amateurs (such as two-time Italian national kilo champion Stefano Baudino, and world championship Russian Junior Squad) and professionals (for example Tour de France veteran Herman Van Spingel, winner of Europe’s oldest and longest classic, Bourdeaux-Paris with GALLI equipment in 1981).
In the U.S., GALLI components have been proven by success in the most grueling of cycling competition: ultra-marathon racing. LONG HALDEMAN and SUSAN NOTORANGELO used GALLI on their record-breaking transcontinental tandem ride, and Lon then powered to victory in the 83 Race Across American (RAAM) on GALLI equipped bikes.
This involvement with racing has given GALLI its final and finest research and development laboratory: world class competition.
